9-time Pro Bowl S Lynch retires (AP)

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Denver Broncos safety John Lynch gestures as he announces his retirement from NFL football during a news conference Monday,  Nov. 17, 2008 in Tampa, Fla. The 37-year-old was a nine-time Pro Bowler for Denver and Tampa Bay, finishing with 1,277 tackles, 100 pass breakups and 26 interceptions in 224 regular-season games.

No more bone-jarring tackles for John Lynch. The hard-hitting, nine-time Pro Bowl safety retired Monday, saying it was time to begin a new phase of life after 11 seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and four more with the Denver Broncos. He felt so strongly about the relationships he built with both clubs that he decided against stepping down in the colors of either team.
