Lawyer: NFL drug czar didn’t tell players about pills
The lawyer for three New Orleans Saints players facing suspension said Wednesday the NFL’s independent drug administrator acknowledged he did not inform NFL players that the supplement StarCaps contained a banned diuretic. During the players’ appeals hearing, attorney David Cornwell said that Dr. John Lombardo’s testimony proved none of his clients - Deuce McAllister, Will Smith or Charles Grant - took steroids.

NFL reinstates Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones
The NFL is giving Adam “Pacman” Jones another chance. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Wednesday the suspended cornerback has been reinstated by league commissioner Roger Goodell, but will not play this Sunday or the following game on Thanksgiving. That would peg his return for Dec. 7 at Pittsburgh. Jerry Jones said Adam Jones could return to practice Monday.

Goodell shouldn’t give Pacman 2nd chance this year
By foolishly reinstating chronic delinquent Adam Jones, Roger Goodell has made him the NFL’s problem again, Alex Marvez says.

9-time Pro Bowl S Lynch retires (AP)

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Denver Broncos safety John Lynch gestures as he announces his retirement from NFL football during a news conference Monday, Nov. 17, 2008 in Tampa, Fla. The 37-year-old was a nine-time Pro Bowler for Denver and Tampa Bay, finishing with 1,277 tackles, 100 pass breakups and 26 interceptions in 224 regular-season games.

No more bone-jarring tackles for John Lynch. The hard-hitting, nine-time Pro Bowl safety retired Monday, saying it was time to begin a new phase of life after 11 seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and four more with the Denver Broncos. He felt so strongly about the relationships he built with both clubs that he decided against stepping down in the colors of either team.

Tomlinson can feel season slipping away (AP)
The underachieving San Diego Chargers had a long, quiet plane ride home from Pittsburgh, the scene of their latest debacle. “Nobody said much. I don’t even know how to take that,” star running back LaDainian Tomlinson. Sunday’s bizarre 11-10 loss to the Steelers left the two-time defending AFC West champion Chargers 4-6 and two games behind Denver with six games left.

Feely’s field goal in OT gives Jets win over Pats

Matt Cassel made Brett Favre and the New York Jets work overtime to take over the lead in the AFC East.

Cassel hit Randy Moss for a toe-tapping catch at the side of the end zone to tie the game with one second left in regulation, but Jay Feely’s 34-yard field goal on the first series of overtime gave the Jets a 34-31 victory over the New England Patriots and first place in the division.

‘This win ranks right up there near the top,’ Favre said Thursday night after the Jets won their fourth straight game. ‘They had all the momentum. They had every reason to win. We could have folded. And, based on history, you would have bet against us. This says a lot about our team.’

Jerry Jones: ‘Boys will ‘absolutely’ make playoffs
Jerry Jones “absolutely” believes the Dallas Cowboys will make the playoffs, would welcome Adam “Pacman” Jones back to the team if he’s reinstated and isn’t considering a coaching change. The Cowboys owner, in an impromptu gathering with reporters during practice Thursday, said he expects his struggling Cowboys to recover. They have gone from Super Bowl favorites to a 5-4 team tied for third place in the NFC East after losing four of their past six games. “That’s not optimism,” Jones said.

Jets haven’t truly ended Pats’ reign
Brett Favre put New York alone atop the AFC East with a wild OT win. But beating these Pats isn’t a huge feat, Jeff Goodman says.

Jets‘ Law rusty, hopes to play vs. Pats (AP)

In this Aug. 9, 2005 file photo, New York Jets cornerback Ty Law runs with the ball during football camp at the Jets training facility in Hempstead, N.Y. Law, 34, signed with the Jets on Tuesday and practiced with the team after sitting out nearly 11 months as a free agent. The Jets only had a walkthrough Wednesday, so Law is trying to get up to speed quickly with hopes of playing Thursday night against New England.

Ty Law headed straight for the cold tub when he got to the New York Jets‘ training facility Wednesday morning. The 34-year-old cornerback was still feeling the effects of his first practice with his new teammates. “Just to be out there on the field with the guys and running around and they throw you right in there, it’s really a test to see if you’re an old man or not,” Law said with a laugh.

Broncos bring back RB Tatum Bell (AP)
Maybe a blast from the past can help the Denver Broncos‘ current conundrum in their battered backfield. Down to rookie fullback Peyton Hillis as their primary ballcarrier following injuries to all four of their tailbacks, the Broncos signed free agent Tatum Bell on Tuesday, bringing back a player they drafted in the second round out of Oklahoma State in 2004.
